German Studies on Pumkin Seed Oils

Herbal remedies such as saw palmetto, pygeum and pumpkin seed oil are becoming more popular recommendations for BPH. I read in the Irish Times that a large German study showed that 2,000 men with BPH, treated with pumpkin seed oil for three months, had significant improvement with urinary flow. Pumpkin seed oil can be extracted from the seeds and contains a number of fatty acids, vitamins and other antioxidants.

Pumpkin Seed Oil - Natural Prostate Care Remedy

I read in an article, by Round Town News, that experts refer to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) as being a benign tumor. The article goes on to say "As the prostate enlarges, it causes the gland to press against the urethra. The bladder wall becomes thicker and easily irritable and begins to contract even when it contains only small amounts of urine, causing more frequent urination, especially at night. Eventually, the bladder weakens and loses its ability to empty itself, so some of the urine remains in the bladder. The narrowing of the urethra and partial emptying of the bladder may cause other problems, due to accumulation of bacteria and residuals in the bladder, such as urine tract infections or residual crystallization and diverticulum’s."

Benine Hyper Plasia (BHP)

The enzyme, 5 Alpha Reductase, is responsible for converting testosterone, in males, to dihydrotestosterone, which causes the prostate gland to enlarge (BHP). If gone unchecked, an enlarged prostate can lead to prostate cancer, beside all other symptoms that follow BHP. Saw Palmetto, and some other natural cures, can inhibit the production of 5 Alpha Reductase, therefore, Reducing the risk of developing (BHP). Some of the more common natural remedies are listed below.

Lack Of Rest Can Affect Prostate Health

Sleeplessness is usually a problem of hormones, in particular, a loss of production of melatonin. Melatonin is produced by your body. It is the time to go to bed hormone that makes you sleepy.

You can purchase Melatonin in different strengths at any health food shop or even at your local Walmart. The problems presented  are, you don't know how much you need to fall asleep, and too much can lead to other problems, and the form of melatonin you buy is man made, not natural. The best way to deal with this issue is to encourage your body to produce the amount it needs naturally.

Tryptophan is an amino acid, meaning that your body cannot produce it, so it has to be introduced through your diet. Foods like turkey have tryptophan in it, but you can't get large enough quantities of it to produce the desired effect. Tryptophan is not available in stores, but you can get a byproduct of it, which is 5-HTP. Tryptophan is metabolized by your body to produce 5-HTP, wich is 5 molecules of tryptophan combined as one, hence the term 5 hydroxy tryptophan.

5-HTP metabolizes into seratonin, the feel good hormone, which means that the more you take, the better you will feel. Large quantities can actually induce euphoria.

Your eyes send a signal to your brain at night that tells the brain that there is no sun out. Your brain then begins the process of converting seratonin into melatonin, and then night-night.

My wife suffers from sleepless nights. I find that 10 capsules does the trick quite nicely. There are no side effects from 5-HTP and you can't overdose from it. Your body simply disposes of what it does not use.

You can get it online. I found a sale at

The Role of Sex in Prostate Health

Many men believe that the prostate gland has little or nothing to with sexual performance or they are not sure what the role of this very important gland is. Its main role is to produce enough liquid to carry the sperm to its correct destination. A reporter recently asked men about their prostates in the street and the answers were somewhat vague if not downright inaccurate ! Many of the men questioned had a rather vague idea of where the gland actually was.

Once the gland is affected by enlargement (BPH) or infections (prostatitis) then its function will be compromised and can lead to loss of libido and/or impotence. In the case of an enlarged prostate, the increased size can interfere with erection and can lead to erectile dysfunction if not treated or looked after.
